The Devon Rex belongs to the group of shorthaired cats. It is medium-sized, unusual cat, sometimes called "kobold cat" - a goblin cat, for its appearance raises an association with aliens or mythical animals. The head is short and wedge-shaped. The forehead is rounded, curving back to a flat skull. Full cheeks have prominent cheekbones. The nose is very short, together with the rounded forehead giving the impression of a stop. The muzzle is short, the chin is strong. The facial features form the so-called "whisker break". Whiskers and eyebrows are crinkled, rather coarse and of middle length. Ears are very large, very wide at the base, tapering to rounded tips, set on the head very low. They are well covered with fine hair, with or without hair growing from a crease behind the ears to form ear muffs. Eyes are large, oval, set well apart, slopping towards the outer edges of the ears. They are bright, pure and clear in colour; they can be of any colour. The neck is long and slender. The body is medium long, hard and muscular, slender, with a broad chest. The legs are slender and long; the hind legs are longer than the front legs. Front legs are set on the body, so as to give the impression of slightly bandy feet. Paws are small and oval. The tail is long, slender and tapering. It is well covered with short hair. The coat is very short and fine, soft, wavy, with or without guard hairs. The touch gives a more coarse impression than the coat of the Cornish Rex or the German Rex, because the Devon Rex has both an uppercoat and an undercoat. During moulting, the coat can partially fall out, creating bald spots on the cat's body, which will grow again later. All colour varieties and patterns are recognized, including combinations with white. Any amount of white is permitted.
