The Burmilla belongs to the large group of short-haired cats. It is an elegant medium-sized cat of foreign type. The head has a rounded skull with medium width between ears. It is wide at horizontal eyebrow and jaw level, tapering to short, blunt wedge. The profile of the nose shows a gentle nose break. The tip of nose and the chin should be in line. A bump on the nose is undesirable. The ears are medium to large, broad at base, with slightly rounded tips. They are set with a slight forward tilt in profile. Viewed from the front, the outer line of the ear continues that of the face. Eyes are large, placed well apart in a slightly oblique setting. A slightly curved upper line is angled towards the nose with a fuller curved lower line. The eye colour is luminous and expressive; the eyes are outlined with the dark colour. All shades of green are permitted. A yellow tinge is acceptable for kittens and young cats. In red, cream and tortie varieties, amber eyes are allowed. The body is medium-sized, with a rounded chest and straight back. The legs are slightly slender, with strong bones. The hind legs are slightly longer than the front legs. The tail is medium to long, medium thick at the base, tapering slightly to a rounded tip. The coat is short, dense, with a silky texture, smoothly lying, with a rich undercoat, which gives it a slight lift. FIFe approved this breed on January 1, 1995.
