The Burmese belongs to the group of shorthaired cats with badges (Burmese lightening). The head, viewed from the front, resembles a short wedge, is wide at the cheekbones, tapering to a blunt finish at the muzzle. The forehead is rounded in profile, the tip of the nose and chin form a vertical line. There is a distinct nose break at the base. The chin is strong, in profile it shows a strong lower jaw. Ears are medium sized, broad at the base, with slightly rounded tips. Eyes are large, set wide apart. Their colour is lustrous, vivid and bright. The body is of medium length and size. It is muscular and compact, and heavier than its appearance indicates. Legs are rather slender, paws are small and oval. The tail is medium long, straight, moderately thick at the base, tapering to a rounded tip. The coat is fine, glossy and silky, lying close to the body, almost without undercoat, and very short. Permitted colours are: brown, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream, seal tortie, blue tortie (blue cream), chocolate tortie, and lilac tortie.
