The Turkish Van belongs to the group of semi-longhaired cats. The head is short, its lower part is triangle-shaped. The nose is of medium length and straight. The chin is firm. Ears are large and well furnished, wide at the base, with slightly rounded tips. They should be white on the outside, the inner side is pale pink. They are set narrowly and high, placed high on the skull. Eyes can be blue, orange to light amber, or odd-eyed. Eyelids should have a pink outline. The long, but very sturdy and muscular body is connected to a strong neck. The legs are of medium length, with dainty round paws. The tail is of medium length, medium-furnished, without an undercoat. The coloured patch begins at the hindquarters and extends to cover the whole tail, which is faintly ringed. The coat is semi-long on the body; it is fine with a silky texture. It does not have a woolly undercoat. The basic colour is chalk white with no traces of yellow. On the face there are two coloured patches with a white blaze between them, which is typical to this breed. The nose leather and paw pads are pink. Some cats have small, irregularly placed patches, but this should not disqualify an otherwise excellent cat. These patches are more often barred than solid. Turkish Van cats are very active and playful.
